A new search engine cuil.com, was launched recently by a former employee of google. According to various articles on the web and cuil's home page, cuil's index contains 121,617,892,992 web pages, really a large database. But does that make it a better search engine? Better enough to beet google?

Google is the current leader in the search market, followed by Yahoo!. google.com is the default preference for many users including me to
quickly find the needed information. Search engine experts have always worked very hard to place there sites higher on the google's pagerank scale, underlining the importance they have given
to google in driving their business through it's millions of users.
To beet google, cuil will not only have to provide a really good service regarding the search results, It will also have to provide it fast. If you have used Yahoo! along with google,
you must have noticed the differences in site performance. Users want it fast and they also want it accurate and relevant.

Here is my evaluation of cuil.com

Performance:
The cuil.com is touch slower compared to google. The results page always almost takes a second more than google.

Number of search results:
For example, I searched "learning asp.net" on google, it returned 11,600,000 results whereas cuil returned 50,558,024 results, 5 times more!
having more results is not always a indicative of the quality of the results. Note: hardly ever anyone take a look at the third page of the results, having even billions after the first page doesn't matter most of the times, what you have at the top ten does.

Here are some top results.

Looking at the above table, you can clearly see that there is no similarities in the results. The most funny result was when I searched "asp.net vs php" on cuil. It was giving all the hosting sites out there. Also, google has clearly indexed www.nirandas.com and is
including it in various results. However, cuil has not yet included my site in it's index.

Yes, cuil is a new search engine, and if it has launched itself with billion of pages indexed, it is certainly something to look for.
